Magistrate Abayomi Ajala of an Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday sentenced four teenagers to five years imprisonment for escaping from Dugbe Police Station, Osogbo.
The convicts Adeleke Azeez, 20, Isola Segun, 18, Odewale Maliq, 18 and Ayoola Pelumi, 15, were earlier arraigned and remanded at Ilesa Correctional Center on July 28, 2020, on three count charges bothering on unlawful escape and wilful damage of police custody.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode said that the convicts committed the offence on July 27, 2020, at about 3:00 am at Dugbe police station, Osogbo.
He also informed the court that the convicts did willful damaged the iron door and roofing sheet of Dugbe police station and escaped from the lawful custody.
Adeoye said that the offence committed by the convicts was contrary to and punishable under section 516,135(a) and 151(b) Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002.
The four convicts admitted guilty to the allegations levelled against them.
The Defence Counsel, Adedoyin Ajewole while stating her allocates for the convicts, urged the court to cautioned and discharged the convicts saying that the convicts are young and if sentenced they may be corrupted in the correctional.
Magistrate Ajala in his ruling sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment for the first count charge, two years for second count charge and one year for third count charge to run concurrently or the option of fine of N9,000 with six strokes of the cane each.
