As part of efforts to further improve the standard of education, the Osun State Government said plans are underway to ensure that all public school students in the state are captured through technology with the provision of smart card for each of them so as to aid proper monitoring.

According to the State Government, the smart card will contain a comprehensive data of each pupil which will enable the State through the Ministry of Education to properly monitor and track them and as well monitor their performances in both internal and external examinations at a glance.

The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin disclosed this in Osogbo at a meeting with school principals.

The Commissioner explained further that the smart card technology will also ensure the safety of all public school pupils in the state as the state government will be able to easily supply information about any student.

While reiterating Government’s determination to bring back the teaching of core values and morals into the state’s educational structure, he hinted that no student will henceforth be promoted into the next class without passing the promotion examination.

Oladoyin called on school principals to devise a means of mentoring and monitoring students through the attachment of teachers to groups of students.

He added that government will begin to organise annual education congress where stakeholders will meet to delibrate on how to improve the sector.

“The students’ smart card that the State Government is planning to produce for all students is something very good in the sense that it will enable us to keep tabs on all pupils.

“The smart card will go a long way in helping to monitor students both in and out of the school. We can track and monitor their academic performance at a glance as their data and everything about them can be sourced at the tap of a button,” Oladoyin stated.
