By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

As part of efforts of the Osun State Government to reposition the economy of the state, arrangements are in top gear to refurbish major markets across the state and give commercial activities a boost.

While the salvaging step will bring an ease to commercial activities in state for the benefits of the masses, it will also serve a composite function of boosting the state internally generated revenue.

Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Civic Orientation, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye who gave the hint while addressing residents of Orile-Owu in Ayedaade South LCDA which included all forms of societal strata  at a Civic Engagement Programme, said the present administration recognizes the need for major markets across the state to be in good physical condition as a means of raising commercial activities in every nook and cranny of the state.

The former lawmaker who explained that the Oyetola administration places high premium on the need to boost the economy of the state said the plans to refurbish the markets have already been captured in the 2021 budget estimates of the state.

According to him, “We have a Governor that is in a hurry to develop our state, he is determined to take development to every nook and cranny of this state and one of the ways to do that is to boost commercial activities across the state. We can enhance the capacity of small and medium scale buisnesses in our localities if major markets across the state are doing well. The Governor is determined to drag economic development to every part of the state through major markets.

“Come next year, work will begin on the refurbishment of the major markets across the state, as it has already been captured in the 2021 budget estimates of the state and funds have been earmarked for the purpose.”

The Special Adviser assured the residents that the present administration will definitely take care of their infrastructural needs which include most importantly good road network around the area saying that the Governor has never for once forgotten the people in the area as well as his campaign promises to them.

Earlier in an address, the Olowu of Orile-Owu kingdom, Oba Dawood Ajolola Akefalabi while commending the Governor for putting up a Programme to give the masses a voice in government said the Governor has demonstrated an uncommon zeal to take development round the state through the Civic Engagement Forum.

While appealing to the Governor to do something about the poor condition of roads in the area, the royal father urged the present administration to continue with the unique leadership style of an all inclusive government which he said is the best way to go.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Mrs Olusola Ogunfolaju assured residents of the ancient town and the entire Local Government Area that Governor Gboyega Oyetola will never relent in striving to make the local government better.
