Osun: Two Persons Dragged Before Court for Alleged Assault, Damage

A 30-year-old husband, Abidoye Ayodele and a nursing mother, Abija Mary have been dragged before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Osogbo for allegedly beating and damaging, Omotola Omosuyi,  the wife’s property.

The two accused were alleged to have committed the offence on the 3rd of July 2020 at about 1:00 pm at Jaye Area, Osogbo.

The two accused persons were arraigned on four counts bordering on malicious damage and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs Bose Soyemi, “Abija Mary beats one Omotola Omosuyi with a stick and damaged a 32inches Plasma Television valued N79,000 that belongs to her.

“Also, Abidoye Ayodele damaged two hair drier, one tiger generator, one fridge and one deep freezer and one standing fan total valued N285,000, the property of Omotola Omosuyi.

Soyemi said that offence committed by the two accused persons is contrary to and punishable under section 516, 252 and 451 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. II Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

The two accused pleaded not guilty to all the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the accused persons, A. B Moshood, urged the court to admit his clients to bail on the most liberal term.

The prosecutor however opposed the bail application, saying that the first accused was the husband of the complainant and the nursing mother is the second wife. She said they have in three occasions assaulted the wife which was settled at the police station.

The Magistrate, Mr. Adebayo Ajala granted the accused persons bail with the sum of N100,000 and one surety each.

He adjourned the case to August 18th, 2020 for the hearing of the case.
