The police team deployed to Iwo Area of Osun State, to monitor and ensure credible electoral process is achieved, has arrested two suspected vote buyers at St. Mary Grammar School Elewe-Iwo for canvassing for votes. The police say six men were spotted trying to buy electoral votes while election was on going. But as they closed in on them, four escaped while two were arrested.
Amongst the arrested is Muriana Olalekan, 16, of No. 11 Oloya Street and Hamzat Muniru, 65 of Molaru Compound. They were searched and the sum of N640, 000 was recovered from them. Upon interrogations the suspects confessed that the money is meant for the PDP party agent and electoral officials. The suspects further stated that the money was given to them by PDP ward chairman Molete 1 of Iwo LG, Mr Akin Abiodun. Investigation is currently on going.
Earlier INEC had sent out a strong warning vowing to arrest and prosecute anyone caught trying to buy or sell votes.
