Oversight Functions Are Not To Witch-Hunt But To Evaluate Projects Executed- Lagos Lawmaker Tells Council Chairmen



The Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs in the Lagos state House Of Assembly, Hon. AbdulSobur Olawale Olayiwola, has said overeight functions embarked upon by the committee were not to witch-hunt the local government authorities but to evaluate the projects executed by the councils for the betterment of the people.

Olayiwola said this when the House Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs, visited Yaba Council Development Area and Mushin Local government on Monday.

The lawmaker said “It is apparent that the people at the grassroot are yearning for feeder roads or trunk “C”, which are the responsibilities of the Local Governments,primary drainages, Culverts and others that can make life better for the people,these are the things we are here to confirm if the Councils are actually performing their primary responsibilities”.

He applauded Yaba LCDA for its giant strides on Education, road construction, Primary Healthcare Centres and office accommodation.

In the area of renovating the Council Legislative Chamber and the equipment of the offices with modern gadgets,furniture, gallery and other amenities, the Committee Chairman rated Yaba LCDA high among all the Local Governments in Lagos State.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Mr Kayode Omiyale, who welcomed the committee Chairman and members of his committee, commended them for the oversight function and reeled out his achievements since he came to power.

In Mushin local government, the House Committee visited Olufunmilayo street and some of the projects executed by the Emmanuel Bamigboye led administration.

The Committee Chairman commended the Council Chairman for engaging direct labour for the execution of the projects, saying that it would promote local contents.
