Leadership of the Oyo State chapter of the Action Alliance (AA) has unanimously endorsed Pastor Taiwo Ibiyemi Otegbeye as the governorship candidate of the party for the February 2015 general elections.
The stalwarts and loyalists of the party from the 33 local government areas of the state during the state congress of the party held on Saturday in Ibadan, the state capital ratified the candidature of Otegbeye through a voice endorsement which was unanimously endorsed by all the party members present at the venue.
Also ratified and endorsed at the congress witnessed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Police, State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were 32 state House of Assembly aspirants from the 32 state assembly constituencies in the state.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman and State Chairman of the party, Senator Tunde Anifowoshe-Kelani and Pastor Emmanuel Owolabi respectively said the decision of the party faithfuls to endorse Otegbeye was in line with the recently released political code of conduct and the electoral act.
Anifowoshe-Kelani noted that the party’s flagbearer with his antecedents remained a man to beat at the election.
In his response, Otegbeye who is the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state noted that his believe in teaching people how to fish rather than giving them fish was the rationale behind his decision to join the governorship race, while promising the party faithfuls that his government would provide means of livelihood for the citizens by attracting both local and foreign investors where unemployed men, youths and women would be fully engaged.
“I am not pursuing ambition, I am pursing a vision, ambition is what you want to be, the vision is what God want you to be, what God wants me to be is to liberate my people and now we are to liberate Oyo State from the shackle of poverty and unemployment.”
He noted that his endorsement was the unanimous decision of the members, adding that any means of selecting candidates either through endorsement, ratification, voice vote, or election since it was ratified by the party loyalists and witnessed by INEC officials and security agents it’s allowed by the commission.
“Politics to me is an assignment, it is not about permutation, I have a divine call to pursue a divine mandate for the liberation of my people, and I have called on God and we believed that politics is all about the people, the greatest form of Godliness is the service to the people and that is what I am out for,” the guber hopeful declared.
