Oyo State House of Assembly Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Munta Abimbola as Chief Judge of the state.
The Speaker, Hon. Sumonu confirmed the appointment of Justice Abimbola after the House unanimously approved the report of the committee on Public Petitions and Judiciary who screened the Chief Judge.
While presenting the report during the House plenary, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yisua Azeez Adesope said it was an easy task for the committee to ratify the appointment of the Acting Chief Judge as a result of his antecedents and credentials in the judicial sector of the state.
In separate comments, lawmakers representing Iwajowa and Ibadan North II state constituencies, Hon. Adeniyi Farinto and Mr Segun Olaleye described Justice Abimbola as a man of integrity whose appointment would foster rapid transformation of the judicial system of the state.
In his remarks, the newly confirmed Chief Judge, Justice Abimbola, while appreciating the lawmakers for his confirmation, said with the support of all judicial staff in the state, the judiciary arm of government in the state would experience adequate and prompt reforms during his dispensation.
He, however, appealed to the House to speedily pass the administration of criminal justice bill as well as the community service bill currently before the House.
It would be recalled that Justice Abimbola was sworn-in as Acting Chief Judge of Oyo State by Governor Abiola Ajimobi in August this year.
