Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed a robbery incident that was reported by the media recently.
Speaking with correspondents of the Assembly at a press conference, the clerk of the House, Ms. Felicia Oyediran said though the incident happened but it was not as earlier reported by the media and it did not affect the plenary of the House
Oyadiran said there was an electricity problem, generally in the secretariat last week with transformer supplying electricity to some part of the secretariat particularly the Ministry of Establishment, Agric, Health, commerce office of the Auditor General, and Accountant general.
She added that it was not fixed by the ministry of work until last week.
According to her “That was not the reason why the House did not resume sitting, the House adjourned till Thursday, however, committees are still carrying on their duties.
“Last week however, there was theft on some electrical appliances at the generator stand with the fence around it, this does not mean the House did not have light when we have fuel , there will be light in the House. In fact, the generator was used on Friday and on Saturday ,it was also used on Monday.
“This does not prevent the House from carrying out its roles. Duties of the House has not to be hindered in whatever form. The theft was reported and police are investigating the matter, Two persons are already with the police for questioning and we are still awaiting the report from the police concerning the theft.”
The Clerk said it was not N500 000 Cable that was stolen as earlier reported, saying it is far from the truth.
She said the fuse that was stolen is about N40 0r N45,0000 adding that the development did not in any way hinder activities of the House.
She called for synergy and a robust relationship between the correspondents of the Assembly and the House, just as she urged them to always confirm the authenticity of their stories before going to press.
An inside source also informed that the police have launched investigation into the mater and invited some guards for further questioning.
