Oyo State House of Assembly has expressed its dissatisfaction on traders selling goods on major road setbacks and waterways in the state.
The development was contained in a motion moved by the Honourable member representing Ibadan South West 2 in the Assembly, Hon. Femi Oluwafowokanmi during the House plenary of Thursday.
Hon. Oluwafowokanmi in his motion called on the House and the Executive arm of government in the state to take cognizance of the negative effects of street trading and illegal erection of kiosks and shanties on road setbacks.
He further called on relevant stakeholders to look into measures that will help checkmate the illegal act and boost the aesthetic value of Oyo Environments.
Speaking, Honourable representing Ogbomoso North State constituency, Hon. Wunmi Oladeji in her contribution decried the illegal act, calling on the executive arm to allow traders move into the state neighboring markets in Ojoo, South camp, Challenge, Eleyele and others in other to address the development.
The motion enjoyed support from other members while contributing to the issue.
Ruling on the motion, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin enjoined the people of the state to cooperate with the government on the issue.
Hon. Ogundoyin further maintained that sensitization would be made to educate masses and traders on the vices attached to street trading.
The House in its resolutions directed the motion to the House Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development for proper deliberation.
