Oyo State House of Assembly during its plenary on Tuesday directed that a warrant of arrest be issued on the state’s Accountant-General for his failure to appear before the Assembly as directed.
Other officers affected in the warrant are the Permanent Secretary and Director of Local Government Inspectorate of Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
According to the lawmakers, the warrant of arrest became imperative following their failure to appear before the Parliamentary Council of the House as earlier directed at its plenary on Thursday March 5.
Speaker Monsurat Sunmonu read the two correspondences available to the lawmakers. Hon. Farinto Fakorede from Iwajowa State Constituency viewed the attitude of the state officers as degrading to the office of the Speaker and the Assembly in general.
Farinto, who expressed disappointment at the non-challant attitude of the officers to appear before the Assembly to explain the details of income and expenditure of the excess crude oil allocation to the 33 local government Councils of the state, said the Assembly should invoke Section 129 of Nigeria Constitution to compel the their appearance.
A source, however, told WESTERN POST that the non-appearance of the affected officers before the state Assembly was as a result of the directive of Governor Abiola Ajimobi that they should not honour the invitation.
