Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan has admonished the new Executive Council members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state to imbibe objectivity and professionalism in the discharge of their media activities.
The Deputy governor gave the admonition while inaugurating the new Exco of the state council of the Union at Felicia Hall, Jogor Centre, Oke Ado in Ibadan on Sunday.
According to him, the Union as the umbrella body of all Journalists and media stakeholders in the state has a lot to do to positively redirect and improve standard and ethics of the profession.
He, however, expressed joy with the grand reception offered guests and members of the union at the programme.
Earlier in his address, the new chairman of the union, Ademola Babalola thanked the Deputy Governor, journalists, media stakeholders and members of his family for the support and overwhelming turn out.
Speaking on the theme “Rebranding Oyo NUJ Council : what role for Stakeholders ” Comrade Babalola said much has been done since he assumed office as chairman of the Union, assuring that his administration will embark on projects and activities that would improve members and the Union as a whole.
Other members of the NUJ, Oyo state council who were inaugurated are Shola Oladapo (secretary), Dauda Aderogba (assistant secretary), Akeem Abass(treasurer), and Abiodun Atilola (financial secretary).
The chairman in a separate interview said this inauguration is the first of its kind in the history of the union saying, reason it was tagged “Koseleri inauguration of our time”
He also urged journalists in the state to be law-abiding, cooperate with the newly inaugurated excos as their leaders, and carry out the ethics of Journalism appropriately.
“I assure you, I will not waver on the promises i have made during my campaign and I will deliver diligently.”
