The Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Mohammed Fadeyi has distributed food items to members of his constituency at Ona Ara local government area of the state.
The exercise took place at his party office, Ogberetioya, Ajia and other places in the council area in Ibadan on Saturday with party leaders and members in attendance.
Addressing journalists at the programme, Hon Fadeyi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator in the state Assembly said the motive behind his action was his desire to extend some gestures to the people as a result of the hardship caused by the total Lockdown necessitated by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
According to him, the development had affected many people economically, hence the palliative measures he embarked upon to address some of the challenges.
“I felt the need to contribute my own quota to the economic problems caused by the coronavirus in the country by providing food items to people of my constituency in Ona Ara.
“Since the outbreak of the pandemic and the stay at home order by government, the people have been facing hardship since they could not go to work and their business places, and this has really affected them economically. So, this prompted my action for support.
“I also want to use this medium to encourage my people to maintain social distancing and other hygienes to overcome the disease.”
Hon. Fadeyi who used the occasion to pray for the quick recovery of governor Seyi Makinde of the state who tested positive to COVID-19 recently urged the people to observed safety measures and comply with the stay at home other and the curfew by the state government in order to be safe and healthy.”
Speaking, Vice Chairman, PDP in Ona Ara local government, Alhaji Arinola Isiaka commended the Deputy Speaker for the support, describing the gesture as a welcome development.
Former CAN Chairman in the area, Rev. Joseph Okunade, Secretary Council of Imam and Alfa in the area Alhaji Dauda Azeez, PCRC Chairman Chief Akeem Adekunle, and others who spoke with newsmen at the programme thanked Hon. Fadeyi for the gesture, just as they assured him of their support and cooperation at all times.
They also admonished the people to cooperate with the government by observing hygienes and other safety measures.
Some of the beneficiaries at the programme expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for the support, describing it as a timely intervention.
