The two major roads leading to Iseyin township and the rest of Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State from Ibadan and Oyo have been described as almost impassable and the local economy was suffering for it, just as a concerned group has raised the alarm.
A socio-cultural group, “Ebedi Frontliners,” based in Iseyin yesterday after its monthly meeting called on the state and Federal Governments to come to the aid of the people and embark on quick repair of the two roads.
In a statement signed and made available to Vanguard by the president of the group, Mr. Olusegun Adeleke, most people from Oke-Ogun are farmers, traders and artisans who plied the two roads to buy and sell their products and wares but the poor roads have affected the socio-economic power of the people.
Adeleke said: “No day has passed in the last one year that the two roads have not claimed at least a life of commutters along these two roads. Majority of our people in Oke-Ogun are farmers, traders and artisans who ply the Oyo-Iseyin road and Moniya-Ibadan to ferry goods and farm products in and out of the region of the state.
“We believe our government in the state and at federal levels would not fold its hands and be looking at these loss of lives and economic opportunities. They should embark immediately on reapair of the two collapsed roads.
“Armed robbers now see these roads as best areas to rob and take people’s lives as they found it so easy to operate. Vehicles enter ditches, tumble and empty their contents along these roads because of the bad nature. They should please come to the aid of our people,” the group pleaded.
The body said it appreciated the state government’s effort at boosting economic activities at the local level with the establishment of Aso-Ofi International Tourism Market at Iseyin recently, adding that the gesture would reduce youths’ continous drift to Lagos for menial jobs.
The president of Ebedi Frontliners called on the people of Oke-Ogun region to support the government towards ridding the state of bad elements that constituted nuisance to security of lives and property.
