The Chairman House Committee on Science, Technology and Energy in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Akeem Olawale, has urged the Assembly to direct the traffic regulatory agencies to address the menace of indiscriminate parking of vehicles on roadsides causing persistent gridlock on the roads in the state.
Hon. Mustapha in his motion noted that car dealers and motorists have turned the roadsides to their parking spaces causing traffic problems.
According to him, most of the major roads in Ibadan are not property used by motorist especially those who park indiscriminately at commercial areas of the roads
“Road users especially the commercial transport operators rarely observe traffic rules thereby affecting residents, commuters and motorists in areas like Bodija-Oju-Irin and University of Ibadan road, Apata -NNPC axis, Amuloko-Akanran in Ona Ara Local and many other areas, adding that there is the need to address this issue headlong in order to find a lasting solution to the menace”.
In his contribution, Hon. Dele Adeola, commended Hon. Mustapha on the motion, just as he expressed full support to the issue adding that the problems generating traffic congestions can not be undermined.
He urged the Federal and State Government,Traffic Agencies, including Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYSTMA), and the Police for necessary actions in combating the problems.
Presiding over the motion, the speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin described the motion as timely, saying the motion will be given the necessary attention it deserves.
