The Chairman House Committee on Science, Technology and Energy  in the Oyo State House of Assembly,  Hon. Mustapha Akeem Olawale, has urged  the Assembly to direct the  traffic regulatory agencies to address  the menace of  indiscriminate parking of vehicles on  roadsides causing  persistent  gridlock on the roads  in the state.

Hon. Mustapha in his motion  noted  that  car dealers and motorists have turned the  roadsides to their parking spaces  causing traffic problems.

According to him, most of the major roads in Ibadan are not property used by motorist especially those who park indiscriminately at commercial areas of the roads

“Road users  especially the commercial transport operators rarely observe traffic rules thereby affecting residents, commuters and motorists in areas  like    Bodija-Oju-Irin and  University of Ibadan road,  Apata -NNPC axis,  Amuloko-Akanran in Ona Ara Local and many other areas, adding that there is the  need to address this issue headlong in order to find a lasting solution to the menace”.

In his contribution, Hon. Dele Adeola,  commended   Hon. Mustapha on the motion, just as he  expressed  full support to the issue adding   that the problems generating  traffic congestions can not be undermined.

He urged the  Federal and State Government,Traffic Agencies, including  Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Traffic Management Authority  (OYSTMA), and the  Police for necessary actions in combating the problems.

Presiding over the motion, the speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin  described the motion as timely, saying the motion will be given the necessary attention it deserves.
