A lawmaker representing Ido Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Razak Mabaje has donated food items including soaps and other essential materials to two orphanage homes in his constituency.
The two orphanage homes are Oluwakemi Orphanage Home, Lade area in Ido local government and Juvenile Correctional Institution and Child Care Unit, Alaro area in Ibadan.
Speaking on the gesture, the legislator who was ably represented by his wife, Mrs. Aminat Mabaje said the development was aimed at reaching out to the motherless children and less privileged in the society in order to contribute to their well being.
According to her, orphanage homes needed periodic support from rich individuals and philanthropic for effective care, sustenance and healthy living of the children.
She said, “We are here today to contribute to the well being and development of the children in these orphanage homes, hence, God is also happy when we do this.
“I really want to appeal to the rich individual and the well to do in our society to come to the aid of the children by supporting the homes with cash, drugs and food items.”
The wife of the legislator also admonished politicians to embark of same gestures adding that the support would go a long way in helping to sustain the homes.
Responding, the administrator of Oluwakemi Orphanage Home in Ido, Mrs. Victoria Adeleke and Officers in charge of the Juvenile Correctional Centre, Alaro, Ibadan, Mrs Ayaniran Bolanle thanked Hon. Mabaje for the gestures, describing it as a welcome development.
Mrs. Adeleke said she has been doing the work for 17 years, adding many of the children were picked from different locations in Ido area where they were abandoned by their mothers.
She said the profession was her calling, but need support from spirited individuals to cater for the children.
“I am appealing to government at all levels especially the Ido local government to come to our aid because the biting economy of the country is really telling on us”
“Apart from food, we need other pieces of stuff like drugs and medical support for the healthy living of the children”
According to her, some people have been threatening to outs her and the children from the building facility they are occupying for God knows the reason.
“I am urging the government to help us on this issue so that the already overwhelmed children don’t suffer more. The building in question was donated to us by a monarch in Ife some years back,” she added.
Also on her entourage were Mrs. Arewa Ganiyat, Ward 9 Women Leader, and Mrs. Ogunjimi Adeola Ward 4 Women Leader in Ido local government.
