… As Ajimobi, Mutiu Adepoju, Shina peller laud initiative

The Inter- Town football competition organised by Honourable Seyi Adisa member representing Afijio state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly for youths in his of his area came to an end Saturday, the Ilora football team lifted the trophy by beating Fiditi with a goal.
Both communities had qualified for the final match after successful participations in the earlier group fixtures which involved eight different towns in Afijio local government of the state.
The lone goal for the Ilora team came through Oladapo Tomi at the 44th minutes to the end of the first half of the match.
A total of 23 matches were played at the three venues of the tournament which include, Awe, Ilora and Akinmorin with the first match encounter which took place on August, 12, 2019.
Over 200 youths were directly involved in the Afijio tournament of Hon. Seyi Adisa Inter-Town football competition tagged Afijio 2019 with a total of 23 matches played across 4-5 weeks, between August and October 2019.
Speaking with journalists during the final at Awe High School stadium, Afijio Local government, the organiser, Hon Adisa said the cup was put up to engaged the youths and to make them relevant for themselves and the country at large.
The lawmaker who described sport development as the source of youth development said his intention was to establish the competition as a means of depicting the gains of sport development from Afijio to the nation and the world at large.
“We believe this event is an opportunity for the young ones to get out there and showcase themselves and their stuff to other organisation that may want to take them to the next level.”
Nigeria Ex- International, and former Super Eagles Coach, Mutiu Adepoju described the competition as very commendable, adding that this is kind of activities can bring development to any society and country in sport, and football especially.
“We have to commend Hon Seyi Adisa for this initiative because there are so many talents in Oyo State, and by this kind of competition, they can be discovered.
“As sports administrator, I can tell you that this kind of development is the future of our country especially in sports, because we still have talents at the grassroots but we still need to do more in terms of coaching and developing them.”
Adepoju appealed to politicians and philanthropist to assist sport development by providing facilities that will enhance the sector.
Also, the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi commended efforts and the initiative of Hon Adisa adding that such efforts could open up the state for talent haunt and self discovery on the parts of the youths.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the programme included House of Representatives members, Hon Akeem Adeyemi, Hon. Shina Peller and many others.
