The Minority Leader, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Asimiyu Alarape has empowered 100 women in Atiba State Constituency with cash assistance to boost their small scale business and make them self reliant.
The programme which took place at Equilibrium Resorts, Ojongbodu in Oyo Town had in attendance, party leaders, party executives, faithful and constituents members.
According to the legislator, the gesture was in line with the fulfillment of his electioneering campaign promises to give back to the people dividends of democracy.
He said, “During my campaign, I promised to affect the lives of the women in my constituency positively, so the cash empowerment is part of my promise aimed at empowering and improving their living standard.
“If you empower women, you have empowered the entire family, because it is the women who run the family. They are very industrious. I know my experience while I was growing up with the meager income from my mother; I was able to go to school.”
The Minority Leader assured that plans are on to extend the same gesture to others who are yet to benefit from the scheme adding that the beneficiaries were drawn from other groups, associations in the constituency.
“At least over 100 people were empowered and we did not limit the gesture to our party members alone, apart from party members, we have a lot of other groups within the constituency that contributed to the success of our party and we have to get back to them. if we do not reach out and extend dividends to them, it would be difficult for us to go back to them when we need them.
Also speaking at the event, one of the prominent APC leaders in the state, Chief SM Akindele commended the lawmaker for the gesture, assuring those who are yet to benefit that they too would soon benefit from the scheme.
Earlier, in his own remarks, the Senatorial leader, Chief Akin Ojebode enjoined members of the APC to remain committed to the party. He, however, called on all the members and constituents to support the lawmaker.
“in six months, our representatives are already sowing the seeds and giving back to the society”, he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Rasheed Saidat who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for supporting their businesses.
“We are very grateful for the gesture, we assure him of our continued support.”
