The Oyo State Commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Iskilu Akinsanya has called on members of the public to adhere strictly to the guidelines/rules of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to stop the spread of Coronavirus across the State.
The sector commander made this known while declaring open a day training exercise for officers of the Command on the Role of Security Personnel in Containment of COVID 19 Outbreak organised by the NCDC for security stakeholders in Nigeria
Commandant Akinsanya while speaking on the Role and Responsibilities of security agencies, admonished the officers and men to implement government’s directives on curfew and Inter-State lockdown with the fear of God and professionalism.
He encouraged them to cooperate with sister agencies and relevant authorities such as NCDC by ensuring consistency of messages to communities and share their feedback with relevant Authorities.
One of the facilitators, Assistant Commandant Sheu Ibn Umar, the head of the Disaster Management Unit who spoke on stigma and rumours advise the officers and men Including the members of the public not to listen to fake news flying on social media but confirm what is not clear to them from disaster management unit of the corps in Oyo State or health workers.
The second facilitator who is the Command Public Relations Officer Supt. Oluwole Olusegun spoke on effective communication for Containment of COVID- 19 outbreak adding that Corona Virus is real and deadly.
He urged officers to take proper care of their equipment such as riffles, baton by disinfecting them properly after use.
He advised them to take proper care of themselves because if they are infected they can infect their loved ones and the whole community.
He told them not to shake hands when greeting, but wash their hands regularly with soap and clean running water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
“Cough or sneeze into a bent elbow. Regularly clean all frequently touched surfaces.”
In another development, the enforcement team of Oyo state command swooped on Ikolaba mosque and enforced lockdown order of the federal and state government banning religious activities on COVID- 19 following intelligence report on the activities of the group.
“Immediately they sighted the officers and men of NSCDC they all took to their heel. The state commandant then warned all religious bodies in the state to obey the law and comply with the rules and regulations regarding COVID-19,), as erring persons will be made to face full wrath of the law.”
