Oyo NURTW Members Clash In Ibadan

Richard Thomas, Ibadan

Some factions of the Oyo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW),  believed to belong to Alhaji Lamidi Mukaila aka Auxilari and former chairman of the union, late Taofeek Oyerinde (FELE)  clashed today shortly after the swearing in ceremony of  governor Seyi Makinde, at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, shooting sporadically in some  parts of ibadan, the  Oyo State capital.

Trouble started when members of the Auxiliary faction sighted some members of the union believed  to belong to late Fele faction, along Liberty/Oke Ado,  Challenge, Iyana Adeoyo , Molete area and others, beat  them to a pulp.

The atmosphere  became tensed  as passersby and residents of the areas took to their heels for the fear of being hit by stray bullet as a result of the sporadic shootings from members of the unions.

The shooting  lasted for hours as the union members haunted for one another in the garages.

Western Post News  learnt that members of the  Auxiliary faction had been positioned  in the garages  to chase  the Fele factions away immediately after the swearing- in exercise of governor Makinde.

Western Post  learnt that members of the Fele had vacated the garages for safety, after information of the planned attacked reached them.

It was also  learnt  that  buses of the union members   which were parked  at strategic points in Ibadan were loaded with  guns  to scare away and dislodge other factions believed to  have served under  the Abiola Ajimobi administration.

Some members of the Fele factions who were beaten blue black  ran into the neighborhood of  the areas  for safety.

Some members of the Union who spoke with Western Post News on the issue  condemned the development, describing it as uncalled for.

They however called on Governor Seyi Makinde to step into the matter  in order to find a lasting solution to the development.
