Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two of its officers and a civilian shot during a robbery attack on a bullion van by armed robbers on Thursday afternoon in ibadan
The deceased police officers were escorting the bullion van when they were attacked and in the process, an undisclosed amount of money was carted away.
According to a statement signed by the state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, a group of masked armed robbers numbering about 10 trailed, targeted and attacked the bullion van around traffic light area, Idi-Ape junction, Agodi, Ibadan.
He said the two police officers died later in the hospital as a result of gunshot injuries sustained, while a civilian onlooker was also hit by stray bullet and died at the scene.
Four others, including two police officers are responding to treatment, he said.
He enjoined the citizenry not to panic as efforts are in top gear to track down and apprehend the criminal gang.
“The Oyo State Police Command seeks the cooperation of the good people of the state in providing necessary information to help maintain the relative peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the state.
“As always, if you see something, say something,” he added.
