Oyo Police Command to Investigate Akesan Market Killings

The Oyo State Police Command on Monday said an investigation is on to unravel the gunshots that erupted after people protested against firefighters during an inferno that occurred on Sunday morning at Akesan market in Oyo town.

It will be recalled that one Aderoju Akano male aged 14 years was allegedly hit and died during the protest while three others namely, Jimoh Idris age 14 years,  Sulu Qudinai  20 years, and Wasiu Taiwo age 21 years also sustained gunshot injuries.

The state Commissioner of police, CP  Shina Olukolu while briefing the press during the review of the command’s operation in the year 2019, held at the Oyo state police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan assured the good people of Oyo state that the police will get to the root of the matter and brief the press in due course.

The CP said he has had a robust meeting with all divisional police officers and other stakeholders involved in the security architecture of the state,adding that plans are already underway to do far better in the year 2020.

In another development,  the police boss decorated a total of 10 newly promoted police officers by the police Headquarters, Abuja, to their next rank.

Five officers from the rank of the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, while five other officers have also been promoted from the post of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to the rank of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

The promoted Chief Superintendent are ACP. Alex Asade, ACP. Edun Azeez, ACP. Abdul Adejo, ACP. Agboola Olajide, ACP. Bawa Elisa while the promoted Assistant Commissioner are DCP. Akoh Gabriel, DCP. Reiz Obafunke, DCP. Abaniwonda Olaolu, DCP. Aboki Danjuma, DCP. Eribo Joseph.

The Commissioner of Police, CP. Shina Olukolu admonished the newly promoted officers to be more dedicated and committed to their duty in order to justify their promotion.

He also charged them to apply the act of professionalism in carrying out their constitutional roles in their new offices.

He, however, appreciated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Abubakar Adamu for his magnanimity in extending the promotion of new officers to the Oyo state command assuring him that the command will never let him down.
