The Oyo State Police Command on Friday paraded 21 suspected criminals and the Akinyele serial killer who murdered a pregnant woman Azeezat, Barakat age 18 and others in Moniya and environs in Akinyele local government area of the state in June.
The serial Killer, Sunday Sodipe age 20 and the native doctor who always gave him the deadly charms and incantations for the dastard operations, Yinus Adedokun Ajani were the point of attraction at the police Headquarters.
The commissioner of police, CP Nwachukwu Enwonwu, while parading the suspected criminals of various crimes at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan said the arrest of the assailant troubling the settled water in the Akinyele Local Government and other areas in the state was made possible through different strategies employed by the command tactical team including Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti- Kidnap Squard (AKS) Puff Adder, Personnel of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku, Ibadan and Police Officers from Moniya and Ojoo Divisions.
According to CP Enwonwu, the cooperation of the affected community leaders of the areas coupled with the unflinching support of the state government as well as the good people of the state paid off for the arrest.
“I, therefore, wish to use this medium to reassure the peace-loving people of the state of our determination, resolve and preparedness to continue to protect the lives and property of the people of the state.
The Police boss also enjoined the people to continue to partner and collaborate with the command on useful and credible information to enable them serve better.
Confessing to the crime, the 20-year-old lad, Sunday Sodipe told Journalists that the native doctor, Yinus Ajani engaged him on the killing assignment with the support of charms and incantations.
Sodipe, a bricklayer also confessed to the killings of the pregnant woman, the little boy and others in Akinyele Abodo, Moniya and environ.
He said whenever he was set for the killing mission, the native doctor would give him charms and incantations and guidelines to perpetuate the act, after which he would be given a plate of rice or little token as appreciation.
The native doctor, however, denied his involvement in the killings, saying he never gave charms to Sunday Sodipe for killing purpose.
“Sunday was brought to me by her mother for spiritual assistance, I have never sent him to go and kill anybody.
The mother of the serial killer, Biola Sodipe expressed shock on the development, saying, she never knew her son could do such devilish thing.
“I took Sunday to the native doctor for spiritual assistance when he was growing wayward some years back, I didn’t know that the native doctor had engaged him in a such nefarious assignments.
Also, mother of slain Barakat and husband of the slain pregnant woman,
Azeezat who came to the Command Headquarters to behold the killer of their loved ones betrayed emotion as they spoke with newsmen.
They urged the police authority to take necessary action on the criminals in order for justice to be served.
