The Oyo State Fruit and Vegetable Producers Association has expressed dissatisfaction over the attitude of traditioner rulers and government on Fulani/Bororo herdsmen menace.
Speaking through the secretary of the association, Ojelere
Samson Oyeyemi at the first National Day 2014 celebration and Launching of One Hundred Million Naira Appeal fund for the construction of an ultra modern union secretariat and award giving ceremony, held at Government Technical College, Iseyin on Wednesday, he said effort put in place to promote agriculture in the pace setter state was aborted by the traditional rulers and the government.
Oyeyemi noted that most of the traditional rulers have cows are that kept in charge of Fulani/Bororo, adding that more seriousness should be attached in discharge of their duties as they are
harbouring and welcoming more members of Fulani/Bororo.
He urged the government to intervene in the crises between the farmers and Fulani/Bororo as they always grazed on their farm.’
Also speaking,the Chairman of the Association, Snr Apostle James Fatokun Faloun urged the government for the recognition of the associaton to eradicate nutritional deficiency in Oyo State.
He appealed to the fruits and vegetables producers to
register under the association as constitution allowed them to seize
such products.
Earlier, the chairman of the launching committee, Mr Asiyanbi said
the association which aimed at promoting agriculture and eradicate
nutritional deficiency in Oyo State among others was established in
2003 and registered by the Corporate Affairs Commision, Abuja.
Asiyanbi urged the government to come to their aid in terms
of funds and other democratic dividends,also work in unity to combat
the challenges fruits and vegetable producers are facing.
