A medical doctor at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UMSTH), Akure, Ondo State, identified as Dr. Sayo has allegedly been assaulted by the relatives of a patient being treated in the hospital.
Dr. Sayo, who works at the Accident and Emergency Department was assaulted while discharging his duty on the patient, who was an accident victim.
It was gathered that relatives of the patient attacked the doctor on the ground that he was not properly attending to the aged patient.
Westernpost learnt that it took the intervention of operatives of Amotekun Corps before Dr. Sayo could be rescued from his attackers.
President of Association of Resident Doctors, UNIMEDTH branch, Dr. John Matthew condemned the attack and urged the state government to provide adequate security in the hospital.
He lamented that over 100 doctors have left the hospital leaving only 48.
Matthew also urged the management of the hospital to provide treatment for the assaulted doctor.
He urged the state government to boost the welfare of doctors by paying their salaries regularly
