Patigi Bye-Election: APC Candidate Emerges Winner with 10,354 Votes

Gov raising the hand of APC candidate for the Kwara House of Assembly By-election

The Independent National Electoral (INEC),Returning Officer from the University of Ilorin, Dr Abdulazeez Ishola, has declared Adam Rufai of All Progressives Congress(APC) winner of Saturday’s Patigi Bye Election in Kwara State.

Adam would be replacing his deceased brother who died last year December at the state House of Assembly.

Adam was declared the winner after scoring the highest number of votes 10,354 while his Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate polled 4,623 votes.

Declaring Adam winner, Ishola said: “I, Dr. Abdulazeez Ishola hereby certified that am the returning officer and that Ahmed Rufai of APC after certified the requirements of having highest votes and is hereby declared the winner of the election.

“APC had 10,354 while PDP had 4,623.”

The announcement was made on Saturday night at the INEC office located in Patagi Local Government Area of Kwara.

Reacting to the victory, the APC Local government chairman, Muhammad Swasun said he was excited about the result.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajia Aisha Patigi said they were truly excited, adding that the people have spoken.

“Although, it bittersweet, because we lost somebody and now he has emerged winner of the election. We are grateful to have leader and governor with wisdom. He visited ward to ward,  and government readiness to address them. So iseya!,” she said.
