Palpable tension erupted in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Tuesday, September 15, following the death of a suspected ‘Yahoo boy’ who was allegedly chased by policemen.
Western Post gathered that the suspected Yahoo boy and three others who were in a Toyota Corolla, with registration number KUJ-553LY, crashed into an electricity pole while being chased by the men of Joint Task Force (JTF) on Tuesday evening.
An eyewitness reported that the vehicle veered off the road on the East bypass during the chase. One of the victims died instantly, three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Angry youths have since taken to the streets to protest the death of the ‘Yahoo boy’, in the process, damaging the vehicle of the Nigerian Police at Oke-fia. They also lifted the corpse to the entrance of the Government House, Oke-fia.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident, saying that the force had control over the uproar. She also added that some aggrieved youths had vandalized police van while showing their displeasure at the JTF’s act.
