The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Ayo Olawuyi who allegedly destroyed some facilities at the Muslim Hospital, Ede, after the demise of his brother was announced to him.
It was gathered that Ayo took his brother who was unconscious to Muslim Hospital, Ede on Friday night for medical attention but later died at the hospital.
When the news was broken to Ayo, he was alleged to have attacked the doctor and patients, who were on admission in the hospital, before using an iron rod to break glass windows at the premises.
He was said to have come back to forcefully carry away the corpse of his brother, rejecting appeals by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital to allow an autopsy to be conducted on the corpse.
It was gathered that they reported him to the police but nothing was done to him. The Divisional Police Officer who later visited the scene failed to arrest Ayo. Rather he released the corpse to Ayo.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Yemisi Opalola, who later confirmed the arrest of Ayo said that he had been kept in a place in order to confirm his health status.
“The suspect was arrested with a woman, said to be his sister, on Wednesday. We are aware that he slept on, or had contact with a dead body. Their samples have been taken for COVID-19 test,” Opalola said.
