The Police on Wednesday paraded 30 inter-state armed robbery and kidnap suspects terrorising Kogi and its neighbouring states including some who were alleged to have kidnapped and killed an expatriate Engineer with Dangote Cement Company.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood (CSP) who Paraded the suspects before newsmen at the Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
Moshood said the arrests were in response to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris’ directive to rid the nation of crime and criminalities.
He said that the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Said Hangs to quickly address like armed robbery, kidnapping, social miscreants, cattle rustling, cultism on Auchi-Okene-Lokoja, Lokoja-Ajaokuta-Anyigba, Kabba-Oshokoshoko-Obajana highways.
CSP Moshood added that the effort of the Commissioner and his team through vigour, dedication, utmost professionalism and passion for the job led to the arrest of the 30 suspected criminals and the recoveries of several weapons.
Among those arrested and paraded for kidnapping were Umar Isiaka alias Baddi, 25; Abdulkadir Abubakar alias Nagari, 32; Sanusi Saleh, 22 and Abubakar Hassan alias Kadel, 34.
The suspects were alleged to have on October 23, kidnapped and killed an expatriate, Mr Jose Machada, a construction engineer with Dangote Cement Company, Obajana who they abducted and killed when the ransom was not forthcoming.
He added that the Operatives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad Kogi State Command in synergy with DSS promptly swung into action and arrested the four suspects.
The items recovered from the suspects according to the Force PPRO are 11 AK-47 rifles, two Baretta pistols, two Revolver pistols, 334 rounds of AK-47 live ammunitions, a dagger and a cutlass as well as Military camouflage uniforms.
Also paraded was one Alti Bello, a suspected kidnapper who allegedly killed a senior staff of Dangote Group of Companies, Istifanus Bello, for allegedly trying to shortchange the kidnappers (paying them N5 million instead of N7 million) for the release of the staff earlier abducted by the suspect and his gang.
Shede Zekere, 25 and Ademu Garba, 23 arrested at Kano road, Idah for terrorising innocent residence of the area through cultism and Adamu Bello, arrested in Okene at his hideout in Achoze for kidnapping and cattle rustling were also paraded by the police image maker.
He noted that during interrogation the suspect confessed to have participated in the killing of Haruna Baso a resident of Achoze and carted away the deceased’s cattle .
Moshood said the suspects would soon be prosecuted and called on parents to monitor their wards as he appealed to the public to assist security agents with useful information to track down the criminals.
