The suspects, Godwin John (35), Hammed Abiodun (19), Saka Wasiu(28), Basiru Adepoju(30) were paraded by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Wale Olokode at the Command Headquarter, Osogbo.

Olokode said Abiodun and John were arrested at the Osu area on Ilesha-Ife expressway while Wasiu and Adepoju were arrested for robbing residents in the Ido-Osun area of the state.

He said: “A gang of armed robbers armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded Ilesha-Ife expressway in Osu Area, attacked a commercial Toyota Picnic vehicle at gunpoint and dispossessed the passengers of their valuable properties such as handsets, Jewelries, cash and other valuables items.

“One of the armed robbers after robbing their victims, the following day, wore a jean jacket dispossessed from one of the victims (driver) to a first-generation bank, Lagere, Ile-Ife and unfortunately for him, the driver identified the robber and his clothe he wore, alerted the police and two of the suspects were arrested,” Olokode said.

The commissioner further said, Wasiu and Adepoju “were arrested in connection with a case of armed robbery earlier reported on 17/04/2021 at Ido-Osun Divisional Headquarters.

“Upon the report, the police investigative team swung into action and arrested one Saka Wasiu, a motorcyclist, who robbed his victim with a knife and carted away her phone and money before he escaped from the scène.

“Intelligent-led policing led to the arrest of his receiver, one Basiru Adepoju who was in possession of the mobile phone.”

The CP while reiterating his commitment to making the state a safe haven for law abiding citizens, urged residents to always provide useful information to police.

Olokode added that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation. Olokode said criminals in the state would not go unpunished.
