The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old butcher in connection with the death of his 50-year-old woman- friend, whose corpse was found by the roadside at Aro area of Abeokuta.

Spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.

Oyeyemi said that the suspect was arrested, following an information received at Lafenwa Divisional Headquarters that the corpse of a woman was seen lying by the roadside at Aro area of the state capital.

He said that upon receiving the information, the DPO dispatched his men to the scene, where the corpse was recovered and deposited at a mortuary.

He added that the case was subsequently transferred to State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, for discreet investigation.

The PPRO said that the CSP Femi Olabode-led homicide section embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the woman.

“The investigation eventually led the team to Obada Oko area, where the suspect resides and he was arrested.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect first denied knowing the deceased.

“However, when the evidence linking him with the deceased, which had been at the disposal of the policemen before his arrest, was tabled before him, he was left with no other alternative than to confess.

“In his confession, he told the investigators that he had been dating the deceased since last year, and that he invited her to his house on Oct. 31 to pass the night with him since his wife was not at home.

“He said it was around 3am. that the deceased started showing signs of sickness after they had sex together, and before he could do anything, she had given up the ghost.

“He stated further that he took the corpse in his car and drove it to Aro area where he dumped her.

“When asked why he behaved in such an inhuman manner, he said he did so out of fear,” the spokesman said.

Oyeyemi added that the commissioner of police commended the team for the professional manner in which it carried out the investigation and directed that the suspect be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.

He appealed to members of the public to always make their whereabouts known to, at least, one person whenever they had cause to go out of their houses.
