Kogi State Police Command has arrested five operatives of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for allegedly killing a ram seller in Lokoja, the State Capital.
One of the SARS operatives, an outfit of the State Police Command had allegedly shot and killed 45-year-old man, Ibrahim Ali, at his Ganaja livestock market, Lokoja.
Eye witness account, Alhaji Umar Baba disclosed that the suspected SARS operative was said to have knocked down a little girl with his motorcycle.
“It happened at the front of our shop when a motorcyclist knockdown a small girl, we all ran to the scene to rescued the SARS operative and the victim,as the policeman wanted to live we advised that he should take the girl for treatment which he insisted that he’ll not.”
He explained that an augment ensued between the suspect and passerby, who abandoned his motorcycle unknown to us that he phoned his Collogues who rushed to the scene: “Immediately he collogues arrived the suspect who was on MUFTI, rushed to the vehicle and picked his AK47 Riffle, all efforts made by some of his colleagues to stop him proved abortive as he boasted that he must killed today, he opened fire at close range and gunned down Ibrahim Ali who was standing by my side”.
The killing of Ibrahim Ali, triggered protest in Lokoja, the deceased according to Adamu Ibrahim, is loved and treated everybody with respect and concern.
Protesters in their hundreds match to the police headquarters with the corpse and charting war songs.
The State Deputy Commissioner of Police who addressed the protesters appealed to them to remain calm,while five people were delegated by the protestants to write statement as their were eye witness.
The state Government through the special adviser to Kogi State Governor, on security, Hon. Jerry Omadara, appealed to the Protestants to remain calm and assured them of government determination to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous act: “We are sent by His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello,to appealed to you to remain calm as the Governor is saddened over want has happened that’s why he directed that we must be here and speak with you ,not only that he directed that we must come with at least five representative to government house,” he said.
Expressing the Governor’s Condolence to the delegation, Mr Onoja,who was saddened assured them that Governor Yahaya Bello,would stand by the families of the decease in seeing that justice is done; “This administration would not fold it arms and allowed innocent life been wasted by murderers,definitely the culprits must face justice”.
On the side of government, the chief of staff announced.
The Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO) William Aya has confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect and his colleagues.
Malam Ali Ibrahim, aka umbaba was Murdered in cool blood by an operatives of SARS,he left behind one wife and seven children.
The deceased has since buried according to Islamic rites.
