Kogi Police Command said it arrested no fewer than 56 alleged persons who looted and vandalized government facilities across Lokoja, the State capital between Sunday night and Monday.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Ede who disclosed this while parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Lokoja on Wednesday, said that the arrest becomes imperative in line with the directives from the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to reclaim the public space and restore normalcy across the federation and to bring an end to wanton violence, killing and looting destruction of public and private properties and get rid of criminal elements in the country.
Ede explained that consequent upon the reports of looting of some government facilities in Lokoja metropolis on Monday, said he moblized and personally led other heads of other security agencies and coordinated the operation to halt a further slide into lawlessness.
The Police boss noted that the ongoing operation which has been carried with dedication and passion led to the arrest of fifty-six suspected looters of the Agricultural Development Project, Essential drug warehouse and Federal Ministry of Agriculture Offices in Lokoja and recoveries of some looted items.
According to him, 18 suspected looters were arrested in connection with looting and vandalization of items from the Ministry of Agriculture and entire premises of ADP located at Felele, Lokoja.
He added that 9 suspected looters were arrested in connection with the breaking and looting of the warehouse of Essential drugs properties of Kogi State government, noting that further investigations led to the arrest of another 13 looters in connection with looting of the Ministry of Agriculture and ADP warehouses.
Ede explained that the State government has called for joint patrol, noting police is leading the daily patrol while other agencies follow the police.
He posited several Agriculture inputs, machines, agro chemical, Cartons of surgical gloves.
