Ogun State police command said it has arrested one Fatai Ibrahim popularly called “Emir”, a notorious armed robbery suspect who had for some time terrorizing residents of Obada Oko and its environs in Obafemi Owode local government area of the state.
A statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Sunday, said Fatai was said to have been apprehended on 10th of February, 2021.
The suspect was reportedly alleged to have violently dispossessed one Tijani Sodiq of N120, 000 and two bags of rice along Araromi street on the 5th of February.
Tijani Sodiq was said to have later sighted the notorious robber and quickly alerted the police.
Upon the information, the DPO, Obada Oko Division, CSP Bernard Ediogboyan swiftly mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene where the suspect was apprehended. “Emir” as the alleged robber was popularly known was said to have inflicted a grievous injury on the right wrist of the victim while dispossessing him of his belongings.
The police disclosed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect who is a leading member of Eiye confraternity led hoodlums who vandalized Obada Oko divisional headquarters of Nigeria police on the 21st of October 2020 during the #EndSARS protest.
He was alleged to have confessed to many cult-related fracas in Obada Oko and its environs.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.
He also directed that efforts should be on to apprehend the remaining members of the gang in order to put an end to their nefarious activities in the area.
