Osun State Police Command has asked residents of Olofa Estate, Ofatedo area of the state, not to entertain any fear over a threat letter written to them by a gang of robbers informing them of an impending attack unless they contribute N20million.
Residents of the area were thrown into panic after receiving the letter dropped in some strategic areas by the suspected robbers on Wednesday.
According to the letters sighted on Thursday, the robbers threatened to kill all the guards in the community, adding that no house would be spared during the attack.
A copy of the note reads: “This is to inform you all that we thieves are coming to this community. We won’t spare any house or else you contribute a sum of N20million and keep it with the chairman.
“We will only visit and take the money from him. We will kill all your watchmen if they try to stop us. We are coming with full force.”
The letters were written in both Yoruba and English, according to a resident of the area who did not want to be named.
But the Commissioner of Police in the State, Olawale Olokode, through the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Yemisi Opalola, asked residents not to entertain fear and assured them of Police readiness to forestall any attack.
“Concerning the Offatedo community threat by the criminals to invade their community, people should not entertain any fear. We are fully prepared for them.
“The Commissioner of Police is using this medium to encourage everyone to swiftly report any strange movement in their community to the police on these phone numbers: Osun Police Control Room numbers 08039537995, 08123823981,” the statement reads.
