The Nigeria Police Council has confirmed the appointment of Acting Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase in substantive capacity. He is now officially the new Inspector-General of Police.
The council confirmed him at a meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Arase was first appointed acting IGP following the sudden termination of appointment of Suleiman Abba as the IG.
It was not too clear what Abba did wrong but presidency sources said President Jonathan was piqued by Abba’s undue hobnobbing with the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari even when the new government had not taken over.
Some also alleged that Abba’s trouble was due to his inability to properly account for the election fund approved for the police to prosecute the last general election.
