A midnight robbery attempt at Stanbic IBTC bank along Sango-U.I road in Ibadan, Oyo State was foiled by men of the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police, WESTERN POST gathered.
Policemen from Sango Divisional Police headquarters were said to be on routine night patrol when they encountered the robbers. The police engaged the men of the underworld in a shoot-out, that forced the robbers to flee under the superior fire power of the police.
The robbers were said to have escaped with bullet wounds even as the robbers’ blood stains reportedly stained the walls of the bank.
Speaking to WESTERN POST on phone, Oyo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed the incident.
“Policemen from Sango while on patrol, encountered the robbers and engaged them in a shoot-out as a result of which the robbery was foiled,” he said.
Ajisebutu said one magazine and other items were recovered from the robbers.
He therefore stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina is enjoining ‘various hospital management and chemist shop owners to report promptly to the police any incident of suspected armed robbers with bullet wounds’.
Ajisebutu said the state police command has put all necessary security measures in place to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties.
