Following the the continuous onslaught against kidnapping g , armed banditry and other heinous crime in Kogi State, the State Police Command has paraded 17 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, Cars snatchers, motorcycle snatchers and others.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem A Busari disclosed this while parading the suspects at the Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja on Thursdays, said that operation puff adder is already yielding positive results in the state with the arrest of harvest of criminal elements.
The Commissioners stated, among those paraded is one Jeremiah Abon a driver and Samuel Oroile who were allegedly snatched Kia car belong to Dr Mrs Grace Gunwa from Obajana and sold it in Kaduna for paltry sum of N250,000.
Busari pointed out that on 13th of May ,2019 at about 9.30 hours the police received the a report from one Mrs Grace Gunwa along Army signal Lokoja that her Driver one Jeremaiah Abon took her to her school at Obajana and later told her that her Kia read car had developed mechanical problem and will go and fix it.
In a short while she called the driver repeatedly but refused to pick the calls while he gave the number to another person claiming to have kidnapped him while demanding for ransom.
The investigation led to the arrest of the suspects and car recovered from Kaduna State.
While speaking with Journalists at the Police Headquarters in Lokoja, the owner of Kia soul car with registration number Kogi JMU 550 AA said the the driver, Jeremiah to her to School at Obajana on the fateful day, stressing that while driving the driver brought a complaint that the car had developed a mechanical fault and need to be fix urgently.
She said she told the driver she has a special mechanic in Lokoja that they can not do it in Obajana and will soon head to Lokoja, nothing that when she alighted from the she went straight to her office.
Shortly I entered my office, the driver took the car and told he has gone to fix the car. After waiting patiently for some time, I called his number but refused to pick my calls. He later called me and said Madam I am coming back now. He later switched off his line. Then I left my phone on the table.
Then the phone rang and only for somebody to say that he has kidnapped the Driver and that he must bring ransom.
Dr Gunwa added that this when it done on her that something is wrong somewhere, stressing she reported the case at A division and met with head of SARS.
She stated further that while narrating her story to Police officer, a call came from Kaduna asking whether I known one Jerry and told him why asking him but later turnout to be another police office who had arrested Jeremiah in Kaduna.
The the Police officer in Lokoja spoke with Kaduna counterpart and that is a where the story started.
The Police also paraded five Fulani Kidnappers terrorising between Obajana and Isanlu and police recovered one AK 47 rifle and two pump action rifle.
The Police commissioner therefore pledged armed any one in possession of illegal arms should go and submit them at the nearest police stations, saying that anyone caught will be made to face the wrath of law.
