Poverty reduction, with emphasis on the people at the grassroots is one area the present administration in Ogun State was passionate about and collaborative efforts in this regards would always be appreciated
The Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat stated this when he received the teams from First City Monument Bank and Eco Bank Plc, who were in his office to present a proposal for micro loans to Trade Associations registered with the Ministry.
Hon. Hamzat, in a statement signed by his Press Officer, Mrs. Modupe Salabiu, noted that, the proposed partnership would complement government’s agenda to better the lot of the rural dwellers, when adopted and approved by the State Executive Council.
The Group Consumer Banking Head, Eco Bank Plc, Mr. Nana Araba Abban, and the Regional Director Southwest, First City Monument Bank, Mr. Adelaja Adeleye, said their banks were ready to partner with the Ministry, in order to make loans easily accessible to women and artisans who are registered as associations with the Ministry.
‘’We are ready to create awareness by giving financial and literacy training to beneficiaries through internal and external facilitators’’, Abba stated.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluseye Fatudimu, appreciated the initiative by the banks, noting that further consultations would be made with associations and cooperatives on the project, to further improve the economy of the State.
Also speaking, the Consultant on Community Development and Cooperatives, Mr. Fola Onifade, lauded the initiative, expressing optimism that it would better the lives of people at the grassroots.
