President Goodluck Jonathan Appoints New PEF Boss

jonathanLess than a month to the expiration of his tenure, President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday approved the appointment of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Asabe Ahmed, as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati said in a statement that President Jonathan had approved the appointment of Mrs. Asabe Asmau Ahmed as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF).

According to the Presidential Spokesman, Mrs. Ahmed, who is currently the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, takes over from Mrs. Sharon Adefunke Kasali who had been Executive Secretary of PEF since 2007.

The statement added that the new PEF Executive Secretary hails from Niger State and holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, respectively.

“She is expected to put her years of experience in public service to good use in re-engineering, repositioning and re-invigorating PEF for present and future challenges” the statement added.

Similarly, President Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mr. Denzil Amagbe Kentebe as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Management Development Board (NCDMB).

Mr. Kentebe, an architect with years of experience in strategic planning and policy management, takes over from Engineer Ernest Nwapa who had been Executive Secretary of the NCDMB since April 2010.

President’s recent appointments with only few weeks to the expiration of his tenure has drawn the ire of the in coming All Progressives Congress who accused the president of making the appointments in bad faith.

The president recently sacked the Inspector General of Police, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority. He also recently appointed former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, as the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
