President Goodluck Jonathan appeared in Lagos on Sunday to attend the service at the Winners Chapel, Ota in Ogun State.
The founder of the church, Bishop David Oyedepo, is reputed to be one of the clerics close to President Jonathan. He was one of the clerics in attendance when the President recently met former President Obasanjo in his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta.
He urged Christians to continue to pray for the success and peaceful conduct of the February general election.
In a speech at the service, President Jonathan admitted that the country was going through some challenges but noted that the situation would have been worse but for prayers of Nigerians, which he has always said.
Despite fears and predictions about the coming elections, he said he was sure that God would take control of the situation.
He commended Bishop Oyedepo for his commitment to God’s work and education in the country.
Bishop Oyedepo led a prayer session for the President during which the congregation prayed for grace to meet the demands of his office.
One account said during the prayer session, Bishop Oyedepo said he would invoke the powers of the Kingdom of heaven on those opposed to President Jonathan in the election.
