Government at all levels and school proprietors in the country have been charged to incorporate sport activities into the school curriculum in order to improve and promote sports development in Nigeria.
The charge was given by the Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Engr. (Prof.) Sabit Olagoke at the 15th Annual Inter-House Sports competition of Shagaudeen Group of Schools, Wakajaye in Ibadan.
According to him, government and school proprietors need to improve the sport sector through inter house sport and other sport activities, saying the negligence which the sector had suffered over the years was responsible for setback in the industry.
He said, “Government needs
to be sensitive to the decline in the sport sector nowadays. The sport industry in the country is suffering massively from negligence and insensitivity of government and stakeholder in the sector. Government need to to take proactive measures to make the sector vibrant again.”
The proprietor Shafaudeen Group of Schools while admonishing Parents and guardians to take good care of their children and wards to become good Ambassadors noted that the nation through sports had produced great stars and sport ambassadors the past a d recently.
“In those days, government agents were often present at sport programmes like this to catch them young but the reverse is the case now adays. For instance we invited the state government and commissioner for Youths and Sport but none of them was here. These are some of the factors affecting sport development in the country,” he added.
A senior Secondary School (SS3) student of the school Adesope Yusuf who spoke with news at the event described the inter house sport as memorable and encouraging.
According to him, the event was his sixth experience since his admission into the school adding that the exercise has really impacted and improved him.
“The exercise is an avenue for we young ones to discover our talents and skills in sports activities. Besides, it will also help us to develop the courage to face challenges before us.”
Rosool House emerged winner with 96 points while Grand Ameerat House came second with 82 points.
The Inter-House Sport competition featured table tennis game and a hundred meters race by parents and some teachers of the school.
