A final year student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Adedeji Hassan and a motorcyclist, whose name could not be ascertained have been shot dead by suspected cultists.

It was gathered that Hassan was a graduating student of the institution who recently came into town for his final clearance in readiness for mobilization for the compulsory one year National Youth Service (NYSC).

Hassan and his bike man were said to have been shot around the Agbalemobode area, very close to the second gate of the institution.

There was pandemonium when news of the death of Hassan filtered into the Polytechnic, as fellow students gathered and matched to the palace of the Timi of Ede to demand that the perpetrators be brought to book.

The protesting students also blocked major roads and burn tyres, preventing vehicular movements for some hours.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Sola Lawal, said the management of the institution was saddened by the news if the ‘unfortunate incident,’ calling on students to allow the law take its course.

Lawal stated that security operatives have swung into action to effect the arrest of the suspects, assuring that the culprits would be brought to book.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola, who also confirmed the incident, said that one Rasheed Okoolu, a notorious cultist was a prime suspect, vowing that he would be nabbed wherever he is hiding and brought to book.

Meanwhile, the management of the polytechnic has suspended the ongoing Rector’s cup because of the incident.

A statement from the office of the institution’s Director of Sport signed by O. O. Oni, said the games would resume as soon as normalcy returns to the community.
