The nomination of Mr. Suleiman Abba as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan has been simultaneously confirmed by the National Council of State and the Police Service Commission.
The appointment was ratified after the two organisations met at the Presidential Villa early Tuesday.
President Jonathan had, in July, announced the appointment of Mr. Suleiman Abba as his best candidate to replace a retiring Mohammed D. Abubakar for the top law enforcement job.
Mr. Abba, 55, was formerly the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 7, which oversees law enforcement activities in Abuja and its environs.
Following Mr. Abba’s confirmation, the Police Service Commission also recommended that all states must earmark at least 1% of their monthly allocation from the federal government to their respective police command for improved policing.
