A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay, has said that in the spirit of Ramadan, she would be giving out food items to people in the next few days, adding that more people would be fed before the end of the holy month.
Alli – Macaulay, who represents Amuwo Odofin Constituency I and Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs, Poverty Alleviation and Job Creation, made this known during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos.
The lawmaker said Ramadan period is a time for everybody to show love to their neighbors, especially those that were in need, adding that the gesture is to show love to people in general.
She said: “Ramadan is also a good time to pray for our Dear Country Nigeria and the rest of the world against insecurity, Poverty and the Dreaded Corona virus pandemic”.
She admonished the people to develop a heart of giving and help people around them, especially those who are in need.
Alli-Macaulay said that the essence of Ramadan is for Muslims to put themselves in the position of those that are hungry so that they could know how it feels to be in need.
She said that she specifically gives out food items in the month of Ramadan because people need to eat and that the essence of the period is to feed people and make them happy.
The lawmaker said food items that are available for distribution to the people include milk, milo, sugar, spaghetti, garri, semovita and noodles.
She noted that the gesture is not from the assembly but that she is doing it personally.
Alli-Macaulay, however, dispelled a rumor that she used the palliative items meant for her constituents for her birthday celebration last year, saying “I didn’t use palliatives for my birthday. The ceremony was a birthday / women empowerment. It was a coincidence that 90 boxes of indomie (the palliatives) came at the time and had to be shared anyway to the rightful owners”.
