Raping Of Minors : Perpetrators Must Be Brought To Book – Akeredolu

No fewer than two different cases of minor were reported to have been raped within the space of two weeks in Ondo state which made the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, rise to the challenge that the perpetrators must be brought to book and made to face the full wraths of the law.

She made the assertion on Wednesday when she heard of the cases and felt passionate about them. However Between 28th of June and 12th of July, 2019 the cases of two minors happened in Owo and Irele local government areas of the state.


The victim at Owo is a six-year-old girl ( name withheld)  in Owo local government area and the other one is seven years old( name also withheld) in Irele in Irele local government area.

The alleged sex assaults went viral especially on social media and have generated national discourse.

Worried by the development, Anyanwu-Akeredolu convened a stakeholder meeting in Akure the state capital, on Wednesday where she suggested a strict penalty for the perpetrators of the dastardly acts saying nobody can allow his/ her minor to be mishandled in such manner.

She said, ” it is a pity that this kind of ugly incident happened in our society, no man or woman will ever allow her daughters to be molested in that manner, so all must rise against these evildoers that are not worthy to be living among human beings.”

She also said that such ugly acts do happen mostly to the daughters of the poor in society.

Akeredolu pledged to help the parents of the victims financially and provide every necessary and other assistants needed to safe the minors from any diseases whatsoever.

The cases are however with the state Criminal Investigation Department in Akure.

She, therefore, advised parents to monitor the movements of their wards wherever they go and what they do at a particular time.

One of the parents who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, his daughter was in his car sleeping during a church vigil program being the last Friday of the month, when a man within the church went and raped his daughter.

According to the father, he said, the perpetrator really caused a serious damaged to his seven-year – old girl but that he has since been handed over to the police

Those at the events are commissioners, wives of the local governments caretaker chairmen, nurses, Doctors, Security personnel, Non-governmental organizations and journalists
