Kwara state government has been urged to rescind its decision of removing the salaries of the state civil servants, local government workers, and pensioners from Microfinance Banks(MfB) to save them from imminent collapse.
The state chairman of the National Association of Micro Finance Banks (NAMB), Alhaji Ahmad Baba-Suleiman made the call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday.
According to him, most of the workers owed MfBs a tune of N1 billion and that if their salaries are removed, they will not pay their debt.
Alhaji Suleiman said that the effort being made by the financial institutions to meet up with the Central Bank of Nigeria recapitalization policy would be jeopardized.
He noted that the process will also deny the civil servants and the poor masses the opportunity of services they derived from such financial institutions.
The chairman appealed to the state government to give them time to enable the MfBs to resolve the issues in dispute.
Alhaji Suleiman also assured the state government of the determination of the banks to ensure the state government views all payments to the civil servants’ account
