The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has assured all members of the party that the forthcoming congress of the party will be free, fair, and credible.
Specifically, the party urged a faction within the party, The Osun Progressives (TOP) to remove its doubt on the Congress , beginning on Saturday, 31st July.
APC, through its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday said: “It will be conducted peacefully, successfully and transparently for everyone to see.
“Those who take pleasure in criticising the leadership of the Party and Government are themselves creating confusion.
“The Osun Progressives, as it’s known, should be truthful and stop its wild lies against the party, claiming ‘the APC did not carry along other stakeholders’.
“Meetings were held at various levels in the wards, local governments and state with respect to the Congress. And all in the open. Where did TOP expect the meetings to be held? And who is marginalising who?
“The Osun Progressives are advised to go to their wards and be part of the beautiful demonstration of democracy.
“Everyone is accommodated, a symbol of a crisis-free political party.
“TOP also rejected an arrangement of consensus to select party leaders at all levels. But we ask: why, if the system is approved constitutionally in line with the APC Constitution Article 20. APC is one solid party and TOP should not attempt a division where none exist. It took a lot of energy, skill and wisdom to get to where we are presently.”
APC described the claim by TOP, through its chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, that it “lacks confidence in consensus arrangement that will be superintend over by APC leaders in the state, who have sold ‘Ileri Oluwa’ without given cognisance to the feelings of other members” as “odious and unbecoming of politicians who appear to have discarded honour and are now trading in falsehood, fake news and unverified statements.”
