Rivers Rerun: Wike, Amaechi Meet; Agree to Work for Peace

Governor-Elect Alleges Amaechi Of Paying N300M To Stop His inauguration

Former Rivers State governor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his estranged friend and Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, met on Tuesday in Abuja at the instance of acting Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris.

The meeting which also had in attendance NIMASA boss and former gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election in the state, Dakuku Peterside, was in respect of the senatorial rerun election in the state, which has again been postponed by INEC.

The election was postponed as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) feared the likely outbreak of violence in the area.

Acting IGP urged Wike and Amechi to work towards peace in the election. The two combatants expressed their commitment to peace.

Another round of meeting, according to Ibrahim, will be arranged before the rescheduled senatorial rerun.

Meanwhile, the two major parties involved in the rerun, APC and PDP, have welcomed the intervention of the police boss and promised to work towards attainment of peace in the election.
