Rotary Club of Egbe, District 9110, Nigeria, has distributed free school bags, textbooks and notebooks to the students of Oke-Afa Junior Secondary School, Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo Local Council Development Area, Lagos.
Speaking during a seminar titled; “Drugs abuse” organised to sensitised the students, the club President, Calista Akubuo said the distributions was based on the selected best students across the classes.
Akubuo urged the beneficiaries to improved in their academic performance and challenged other students to study well in order to be part of the beneficiaries in next year’s edition.
Speaking on the effect of drugs abuse, the first guest speaker, Dr. Yetunde Ibrahim said any student who indulge in drugs abuse, easily loose concentration, exposed to sexual abuses and murder.
According to her what peer pressure, copying friends attitudes and experimenting what others are doing are the harbingers of drugs abuse.
Dr. Ibrahim who is also the Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Ejigbo Local Council Development Area advised the students to avoid drugs abuse to enable them concentrate on their studies.
The President and Executive Director of African Girl Child and Women, Mrs. Viola Okoro who was the second guest speaker, encouraged the students to always see themselves as present and future leaders
Speaking on leadership, she said a good leader must have self control, lead by example, be honest, hardworking and have integrity.
Okoro urged the students to do away with all forms of indiscriminate acts and report any abuse to their parents or nearest police station.
